'LIGHT MAGIC'
IN THIS PROJECT I UTILISED WGSN A/W 19/20 TREND FORECAST 'LIGHT MAGIC' AS A FOUNDATION IN DESIGNING A MENSWEAR COLLECTION THAT BLENDS COMFORT AND FORMALITY. THE JUXTAPOSING COLOUR PALETTE IS WINTER FRIENDLY WITH CONTEMPORARY EARTH TONES AND CONTRASTING SUMMER NOTES TO CREATE A BALANCED, CONTEMPORARY DEPTH THAT HAS A BROADER APPEAL. I WANTED TO CONTINUE THIS CONTRAST WITH INDULGENT FABRICS LIKE WOOL AND VELVET AGAINST CHUNKY DETAILS AND ATHLEISURE LAYERING. BOLD DOUBLE BREASTED TAILORING TEAMED WITH HOODIES AND QUILTED FABRICS CREATE INTERESTING CONFLICTIONS.
ARTISTS LIKE JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT ACT AS A MUSE FOR EFFORTLESS STYLING CREATING ATHLEISURE WITH A SARTORIAL EDGE IT EVOKES NOSTALGIA WHICH I WANTED TO EXPAND ON THROUGH PRINT. I LOOKED BACK ON FOND CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF CARTOONS I ONCE LOVED SUCH AS HAYAO MIYAZAKI'S 'SPIRITED AWAY' AND CARTOON NETWORKS 'THE POWERPUFF GIRLS' AND REWORKED SIGNIFICANT IMAGERY INTO IDEAS FOR PRINT PLACEMENT ACROSS MY COLLECTION.
WHAT RESULTED IS A FUN INTERPRETATION OF A FUTURE TREND THAT COMBINES COMFORTABLE SILHOUETTES IN A VIVID COLOUR PALETTE, OPULENT MATERIALS PAIRED WITH TECHNICAL FEATURES AND A NOD TO CHILDHOOD NOSTALGIA.
